Ok, we have all heard them, oxymorons, that is, adopted phrases that seem to describe something but use two diametrically opposed words to convey them, e.g., true story, talk show, smart ass, airline food, airline schedules (for that matter), American English, assistant supervisor, authentic reproduction, childproof, civil war, common courtesy, completed website, communist party... 

If you’ve been in the technology business, you’ve been through the “Hype Cycle” of a variety of solutions, e.g., NetPC, Internet Currency, Paperless Office, Dot-Bombs, the Newton, Virtual Reality, the list is endless.

With today’s challenges, technical, economic, political, or otherwise, our brave IT Mangers stand at the precipice of a new computing architecture that will change how he manages his data, security, and troubleshooting, the Cloud.  This doesn’t seem to be another flash in the pan, so we find our IT professional forced to “Man-up” and take on what almost seems to be and impossible mission.

In a galaxy far far away… Information Technology day to day operational transactions have been the force behind the teams’ identity. Long ago, it was understood that IT just does payroll and payroll functions; sometimes they help us in printing as well. Today, that role has evolved with the advent of the web, data security, mobile devices, distributed computing, etc… However, even today’s modern IT Manager still sees Managed Services as the loss of critical roles in the company...

Ok, so you’ve invested a colossal amount of capital on a rock’n IT infrastructure to support even more expensive applications that are going to thrust your company into the 21^st Century to the top of the Fortune 1000, great. So how’s that working for you? Perhaps, the issues we have seen in the past with our older infrastructures are slowly creeping back into our lives?

In 1976, "The Who" published the suggestive lyrics of "Squeeze Box", which to many who actually listened to the words described the proverbial accordion and its obnoxious playing throughout the night giving no rest to the listener. This should be the mantra of the IT function, for Squeeze Box’s prophetic words describes what Corporate America has been doing to IT infrastructures for the better part of 50 years.

Many businesses are confronted with how mobile workers such as individual staff, vendors and consultants will gain remote access into their business, securely.  On top of that, “how far into the network to allow these people” is likely the next question to be answered.
