Customer Support Senior Network Engineer

This is an advanced technicalposition requiring a minimum of 5 years experience in the Voice or Datat or NOC environment. The ideal applicant would enjoy working with people, have superior troubleshooting skills and the ability to think outside the box.


About you: (because it is)

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in a Voice or Data or NOC environment
  • Superior troubleshooting skills, and the ability to think outside the box
  • Must be a fast learner; you will be expected to figure out/troubleshoot new technologies
  • Have excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Must have the availability to work within a 24x7x365 environment with ability to be on call after normal working hours to assist in scheduled/emergency maintenance
  • Must be good with stress managment
  • Must be willing to coach jr. technicians and peers
  • Enthusiastic / cheerful
  • In-depth understanding of common TCP/UDP protocols (SMTP, DNS, POP3, HTTP, HTTPS)
  • Significant experience planning and implementing complex security networks (Firewall & IPS) and VOIP networks utilizing SIP, MGCP, etc
  • Significant experience planning and implementing IP/VOIP network quality of service techniques/configurations
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to assemble clear and concise documentation
  • Very strong L2/switching experience and troubleshooting skills: (LAN design, fully versed in networking concepts such as STP/RSTP/MSTP/PVST, ARP, VTP, QOS)
  • Design and implementation experience with routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, E/IGRP)
  • Understanding of network security methodologies as a whole, including but not limited to: ACLs, ipfw/iptables, VPNs (tunneling, IPsec, PPTP, etc.)

  • Title: Customer Support Senior Network Engineer
  • What we do / need in this role (what we'd really like)
    • Advanced configuration of Cisco and similar routers and switches
    • Advanced configuration of Juniper/Netcreen/PIX/ASA/ IPsec VPN & Firewall appliances and Intrusion Prevention Systems
    • Perform network design, implementation, documentation, and support
    • Configuration and troubleshooting of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF)
    • 3rd level escalation and problem resolution
    • Work multiple projects/cases simultaneously and meet project due dates
    • Be good with stress managment and maintain a cool head at all times, setting a good example for entire staff
    • Phone and email communication with our 60 maintenance clients
    • Evaluation of new technologies
    • Pre-sales/speaking with clients and sales team about network technologies and solutions
  • In addition, the candidate for this position should have the following characteristics:
    • Ability to make timely decisions
    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
    • Demonstrated professional attitude and courteous manner towards clients, partners, and peers
    • Deliver projects on time
    • Willingness to help where help is needed

About the Process: (what is the hiring process)

  • Part 1. Submit your application or resume -either one works
  • Part 2. Personality Profile
    • Upon receipt of your application/resume we email you a link to the personality profile. This email will be titled "Invitation for Online Assessment from Affant Communication" so keep an eye out
    • The personality profile is performed by www.peopleanswers.com and is used by us to help find the right person for the right position. Please check out their website if you would like to know more
    • This is not a pass/fail but a we are looking for the right qualities/characteristics in a person and this accessment augments the "application, interview and decision" process. For instance, in this
    • person we are looking for a positive and enthusiastic outlook,the profile would help us look into how you tend to deal with situations
    • There are 3 sections to the profile and each are about 15-20 minutes apiece. Only the first section is required to be completed in one sitting
    • The entire process generally takes between 45-60 minutes and is best taken when you are fresh, not at the end of a stressful day when you may be prone to answer questions differently
  • Part 3. Upon receipt of the personality profile we will call potential employees in to interview
